A PROPOSED RESOLUTION IN THE
COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
To confirm the reappointment of Ms. Betsy Harvey Kraft to the
District of Columbia Board of Library Trustees.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That
this resolution may be cited as the "District of Columbia Board of Library Trustees
Betsy Harvey Kraft Confirmation Resolution of 2000"
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the
reappointment of
Ms. Betsy Harvey Kraft

as a member of the District of Columbia Board of Library
Trustees, established by 4 of An Act To establish and provide for the maintenance of a
free public library and reading room in the District of Columbia, approved June 3, 1896
(29 Stat. 244; D.C. Code §37-104), for a term to end January 5, 2005.
Sec. 3. The Council of the District of Columbia shall transmit
a copy of this resolution, upon its adoption, each to the nominee and to the Office of the
Mayor.
Sec. 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately.

Professional Experience
Author
Five published books for young adults, including: Sensational
Trials of the Twentieth Century, (Scholastic Press, 1998), a Junior Literary Guild
selection; and Mother Jones (Clarion. 1995), recipient of the Christopher Award
for young adult non-fiction, 1995, and starred reviews in major library journals.
Association Executive
Executive Director, Coal Exporters of USA. Duties included
executor board management monitoring issues, budges planning, conference program
development, press relations, public relations, and meeting and event planning.
Educator and Trainer
Director, Education and Training, National Coal Association.
Initiated and coordinated all association education and training projects, including
supervision of multi-media, industry-wide training program; development of energy
curricula and materials for public schools nationwide; and creation and presentation of
teacher training workshops.
Editor
Editor, The Macmillan Company and EP. Dutton & Co., Inc.
Responsible for selection of manuscripts for publication; contract negotiations;
author/illustrator contacts; book editing and production; and promotion and publicity.
Civic Projects
Volunteer, Williams for Mayor campaign. Served on Transition
Education Subcommittee on Libraries.
Volunteer, Everybody Wins Books Project. Author visits to DC public schools in conjunction
with Children’s Hook Guild.
Volunteer, Washington Home and Home. Establishing bereavement program for elementary and
secondary students in DC public schools.
Volunteer, Benjamin Murch Elementary School, Chaired development activities, raising
$37,000 in private funds.
