A BILL IN THE
COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
To amend, on an emergency basis, D.C. Code §1-1320(p)(1) and D.C. Code §1-283, to
reduce the 54 day minimum number of days required after acceptance of the referendum
before placement on the ballot of an election.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this act may be cited as
the "Board of Elections Emergency Amendment Act of 2000".
Sec. 2. The ______ Act, approved ____, (D.C. Code §1-1320(p)(1) and D.C.Code §1-
283), is amended as follows:
(a) In section (p)( l ), strike the words "between 54 and 114 days" and
insert the words "between 34 and 114 days"
Sec. 3. Fiscal impact.
This act shall have no fiscal impact.
Sec. 4. (a) This act shall take effect upon its enactment (approval by the Mayor, or in
the event of veto by the Mayor, action by the Council of the District of Columbia to
override the veto), and approval by the Financial Responsibility and Management Assistance
Authority as provided in section n 203(a) of the District of Columbia Financial
Responsibility and Management Assistance Authority Act of 1995, approved April 17, 1995
(109 Stat. 116; D.C. Code §47-392.3(c)), and shall remain in effect for no longer than 90
days, as provided for emergency acts of the Council of the District of Columbia in section
412(a) of the District of Columbia Self-Government and Governmental Reorganization Act
approved December 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Code §1-233(c)(1)), and publication in the
District of Columbia Register.
