1973 (87 Stat. 788; D.C. Official Code 1-204.12(a)).
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
The purpose of the Unemployment Compensation Terrorist Response
Emergency Amendment Act of 2001 is to waive the mandatory waiting week
requirement of D.C. Official Code §51-9(5) for individuals who are
unemployed as a result of the impact of the terrorist attacks of September
11, 2001. The waiver of this single week will allow those unemployed in
the transportation,- hospitality and allied industries to begin receiving
their unemployment benefits one week earlier than a regular claim. The
waiver does not increase the total amount of benefits for which a claimant
may be eligible, however, it will allow the receipt of benefits sooner.
