A PROPOSED RESOLUTION IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

Chairman Linda W. Cropp, at the request of the Mayor, introduced the following
resolution, which was referred to the Committee on ______.

To approve a request for additional time for the disposition of property on W Street,
N.E., Square 4107, Lots 227 and 900 and Square 4103, Lots 826 and 827, to Crane Rental
Company.

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution may be cited
as the "Extension of Time to Dispose of Square 4107, Lots 227 and 900 and Square
4103, Lots 826 and 827 to Crane Rental Company Approval Resolution of 1998".

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia has reviewed and
approved additional time for the Department of Housing and Community Development to
dispose of Square 4107, Lots 227 and 900 and Square 4103, Lots 826 and 827 to Crane Rental
Company.

Sec. 3. The Secretary to the Council of the District of Columbia shall
transmit a copy of this resolution, upon its adoption, to the Mayor of the District of
Columbia.

Sec. 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately.

II. DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSAL

Crane Rental proposes to acquire this vacant property to expand its equipment rental
and storage business. Crane Rental is a family owned business which has been located in
the District for 58 years. Crane rents and stores construction equipment, including
cranes, rigging and trucks. Crane owns the adjacent property and needs to acquire the
District’s property to allow it to expand its business and remain in the District.

III. PROPOSAL BENEFITS

Sale of this property to Crane Rental Company will allow the company to remain in the
District of Columbia. It will bring marginally developable land, which has been off the
District’s tax roles for 13 years, back into a paying status. Tax revenues of
approximately $30,000 per year would be generated. In addition, Crane Rental currently
employs approximately 45 people. The expansion is expected to create an additional 20 to
25 jobs. Crane is committed to providing employment to District residents.

IV. REQUIRED PUBLIC ACTION

The public actions required for disposition are: 1) public hearing and 2) execution of
sales documents.
